Skincare is undoubtedly an important topic as for a lot of us, it is super therapeutic . Our skin deserves a ritual that should be followed everyday, morning and night. Regardless of age, gender or skin type, looking after your skin is pretty important. But, what if you follow certain routine religiously, but your skin may not be glowing or may not look young or flawless? Are you following the steps properly? Actually, knowing the fact that certain things we should avoid in our skin care regime, most of the time we do them anyway. Well, let me talk about 5 Skincare habits we’re all guilty of.
Ideally, one should wash one’s face twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Washing more than that not only leads to dry, irritated skin, but makes it produce even more oil to compensate, causing new breakouts. Make sure that you are using a mild, chemical free cleanser when washing your face. Powder cleansers are also good for your skin’s health.
Exfoliating your face is good, but over-exfoliating is highly damaging as it may actually remove the protective barrier that your skin needs. It will make your skin expose to environmental toxins and damaging sun rays. I always recommend dry or sensitive skin exfoliate once a week, oily skin twice a week when combination or normal skin can exfoliate thrice a week. Make sure that you must use an exfoliator that’s gentle and having tiny granules, so that it will not be abrasive to your skin.
3. Not Applying Toner:
Toners are the most helpful and necessary step in a skincare ritual. According to the dermalogists, a toner is a secret weapon to the healthy skin. It helps to remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin, and helps control acne. And it’s a proven fact that a moisturizer works more effectively after a toner. Only to make sure that a toner you will pick up might be free from alcohol to avoid dryness, itchiness and rashes.
4. Not Protecting your skin:
I have seen many of my friends don’t apply any sunscreen lotion, if they stay indoor or if the day is cloudy or a day of winter. Do you know this way you are welcoming skin sagging, wrinkles, dark spots and even cancer? So, look for a sunscreen lotion with SPF 30 atleast, and PA+++. SPF protects skin from UVB that burns your skin and PA protects against UVA rays that penetrate deeper into the skin and destroy collagen.
5. Neglecting important areas:
You may follow your skincare ritual strictly and properly. But, I have seen many of you to neglect continuing your entire skincare regime down the neck. Do you know, your neck and décolletage show the obvious signs of ageing, even if your face looks flawless? Don’t skip the ears and the back of the neck either, as these parts also get damaged as your face do.
And, of course you shouldn’t make these mistakes:
- Never go to bed with your makeup on. Always double cleanse before bed.
- Make sure that you’re getting enough water and sleep. Otherwise, your skin will suffer a lot.
- Don’t forget the proper order of your skincare routine. It matters a lot.
- Immediately follow your cleansing with toner and moisturizer to avoid the dehydration of your skin.
