Benefits of Pre-poo treatment on hair and Some Useful Recipes I Use

Healthy hair is everyone’s dream and keeping it soft and manageable is that we always try to get. As we have entered the colder months, it requires special attention to add moisture to your hair tresses and to give them the sheen. For that pre-poo is the best option for pampering your hair before you cleanse them.

What is Pre-poo?

It is the pre-shampoo step in the natural hair care regimen, hence the name pre-poo. This step provides a shield against the stripping off the natural oil from your hair in the shampoo step. Basically, it is conditioning the hair with oils, butters, conditioner or even some ingredients from your kitchen shelf, to prepare your hair for the washing stage.

Benefits of Pre-poo:

  • Adding pre-poo treatment to your hair care regimen, helps to restore extra moisture.
  • Pre-poo makes easier detangling your hair strands, hence reduces hair fall.
  • Shampoos always strip of necessary oils that our mane needs for shine, and definition. Pre-poo treatment helps restore that necessary oil to protect our hair follicles being over dry.
  • Regular pre-pooing will improve your hair’s texture, giving you soft, shiny locks.

Here are some pre-poo recipes, I use for my hair:

1. Coconut oil, Honey and Aloe Vera gel pre-poo recipe:

This is my most favourite recipe. Take coconut oil, honey and aloe vera gel in a bowl and mix well. For my hair ( short n thick) I take 2tbs of coconut oil, 2tbs aloe vera gel and 1tbs honey. Next, section your hair into four so that you can get a full coverage. If you feel the mixture sticky, you can add some water to the mixture and apply with fingers on dry hair tresses. Cover with a plastic cap and leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes, then rinse and wash your hair as usual. You can keep it for more, even overnight according to your need.

2. Oil only recipe:

I personally use coconut oil, simply because I love using coconut oil (not only on my hair, but on my face too) and coconut oil penetrates easily into the hair shafts. Sometimes, I go for a blend of different oils like coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil. You can use avocado oil too. But, you should remember that the oils you use might penetrate well into the hair tresses.

3. DIY Hair mask:

Banana+Olive oil+Honey Mask:

For this take an overripe banana that you can’t eat or don’t want to waste. Blend the banana, 2 tbs olive oil ( you can use coconut oil or almond oil or avocado oil) and 1 tbshoney together and apply. This mask is very effective, especially for dry, damaged and frizzy hair.

Clay + Lemon juice Mask:

Mix 4 tbs bentonite clay (you can use multani mitti instead), 2 tbs lemon juice ( you can use orange juice instead) and water to make a smooth paste. Apply the paste on your hair and scalp, leave it for 15-20 minutes and wash off. This mask treats oily scalp so well.
