Homemade Facial Cleanser: Recipe and Benefits

When it comes to cleansing my face, I try to ditch soap most of the time. Instead I rely on kitchen staples or powder cleansers, either store-bought or homemade. How much gentle a facewash can be, this can strip the skin and distort the oil balance. Though sometimes (maybe once or twice a week), when I don’t have the mood for any skincare, I opt for the easier options, which are facewashes. So, here’s the recipe of one such Homemade Facial Cleanser I’m using lately.

In the evenings, I use double cleansing method to remove make-up, sunscreen and to deep-cleanse my pores. While in the morning I make my own DIY cleansers to gently clear my skin without stripping natural oil.

Recently I have incorporated a homemade gentle and soothing cleanser that makes my skin super clean, fresh and soft. This is made of three easy to find ingredients and they’re very popular in beauty community.

Three Ingredients I use in the Homemade Facial Cleanser:

1. Oatmeal:

This calming and soothing ingredient acts as a mild cleanser. Freshly ground Oats can gently remove impurities, dead skin cells without damaging your skin like store bought scrubs. This is a perfect fit for the hyper sensitive skin like mine. This is the cause why I always look for Oats powder to cleanse my face and body. This powder forms a milky texture when activated by a liquid and becomes more effective and soothing for dry itchy or irritated, and sunburnt skin. All in all, it absorbs the excess oil and thus helps treat acne, improves complexion and protects from harsh UV rays and other environmental hazards.

2. Kaolin Clay:

Do you know Kaolin clay is an amazing clay to lock in moisture, fix your dehydrated skin and balance your skin’s natural sebum production? This powerful clay is good for oily, sensitive and mature skin. It acts as the natural detoxifier to absorb excess oil and draws out impurities and toxins. It’s my most favorite clay as it’s gentle on the skin, still leaving the face clean and refreshed effortlessly.

3. Rose Petal Powder:

And here’s the third ingredient, the flower of passion, romance. Rose has been a popular beauty ingredient since ancient times due to its antibacterial, moisturizing, antioxidants and relaxing properties. This natural cleanser helps cleanse the skin of toxins, absorbs excess oil without drying the skin. Its cooling and soothing properties can heal any skin irritations and also gives a refreshing feeling to mind and soul. The exfoliating properties in Rose removes dead skin cells, dirt and pollutants, heals and lightens blemishes.

How to prepare the Facial Cleanser:

You might get that this formula is going to form a powder cleanser. Either use it as the morning cleanser or in the evening as the second cleanse in your double cleansing ritual.

Preparation:

Take 1 Tbs. each of the ingredients and mix well. First grind the oats into a fine powder. Transfer the powder in a bowl (I use coconut bowl), and add kaolin clay (buy here). Mix thoroughly and then add the rose petal powder (buy here) and stir well. Store in a jar.

Use:

To use the powder cleanser, take required amount of the formula and activate with a liquid of your choice. I add either water or milk. You can use rosewater as well. The mixture will form a smooth paste. Now, wet your face and apply. Keep for 1 minute and massage gently before rinsing.

What’s special about this homemade facial cleanser:

Its magical power to cleanse, detox and purify without making the skin dry is the best thing about this herbal formula. Regular use will give you a healthy and lustrous skin texture. You can use it as a daily cleanser and a mild exfoliant though it doesn’t remove makeup.
