I love essential oils. I use them everyday, not only in my skincare and haircare rituals, but I pour few drops in the oil diffuser or on the pillow before hitting to the bed or in the bucket of water at bath. Their aroma immediately energizes my senses, makes me feel relaxed and stress free. Basically I use oils of Lavender, Tea Tree, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Patchouli, Geranium, Rose and Lemon. Recently I have purchased Rosemary EO from Oshea Herbals.

Why do I incorporate Essential Oils in my everyday life:

 

If you look for an all natural, environment friendly way of overall well-being, Aromatherapy or Essential Oil therapy is the best thing. It is the holistic healing treatment to enhance physical and emotional health. That’s why experts say that “Aromatherapy is a caring, hands-on therapy which seeks to induce relaxation, to increase energy, to reduce the effects of stress and to restore lost balance to mind, body and soul.”

 

 

 

 

So, Aromatherapy is not a mere physiological or psychological process, but a spiritual way (Marg) to enhance, balance and harmonize one’s beauty, health and well-being.

 

Let’s talk about Rosemary Essential Oil:

 

Rosemary essential oil is extracted through steam distillation of the herb’s flowering tops and leaves. Rosemary herb, also called “Dew of the Sea” belongs to the mint herb family of Basil, Lavender, Sage, Thyme etc. This fragrant evergreen herb is popularly used for its soothing, stimulating, and pain relieving properties. The powerful woody fragrance is quite refreshing and soothing and immediately can energizes the senses.

 The herb was used in ancient Greece, Rome or Egypt to improve memory, and in their festivals, religious ceremonies, weddings etc. It’s heard that in Greece people would wear Rosemary garland around the head while studying, as it’s believed that this herb helps to improve memory. In ancient Rome it was considered as the symbol of regeneration while in ancient Egypt it was used as incense. 

 

Benefits of Rosemary Essential Oil:

 

  • Prevents hair loss and promotes growth.
  • Helps to relieve stress.
  • Improves memory.
  • Eases muscle and joint pain.
  • Boosts blood circulation.

Different Uses of Rosemary Essential Oil:

 

In the oil massage:

 

  • Rosemary EO: 5-6 drops 
  • Lavender EO: 5-6 drops
  • Coconut Oil : One Cup.

 

In this mixture Lavender EO is optional though. You can take 10 drops of Rosemary EO only.

 

Mix them in a bowl well and shifted to a amber glass bottle. You have to keep in a dark colored glass bottle to protect the mix from sunlight.

 

Take required amount on your palm and apply on your skin. Massage in circular motion to absorb it into your skin completely.

 

This blend is good for any unwanted spots, tan or blemishes. Use regularly to get the result.

 

For joint or muscle pain:

 

  • 5 drops of Rosemary EO
  • 5 drops of Lavender EO
  • One tablespoon of Carrier oil.

 

 

Mix well in a bowl and massage on the affected area. You can warm the blend. Don’t put it directly on the flame. Keep the bowl of oil blend in a bowl of hot water for sometime and use. You will feel relaxed and the pain will reduce gradually. I do this every time I feel pain.

 

To reduce fatigue:

 

Pour few drops of Rosemary EO in a diffuser. Or you can pour some drops on a tissue or cotton ball or on a piece of cloth and inhale.

 

Sometimes you may feel lethargic or exhausted after a long hectic day. You can do this before bed. Just keep the diffuser beside your bed, dims the lights and listen some soft music. Immediately you feel relaxed and believe me it will give you a good night sleep. You are going to wake up with full energy and enthusiasm.

 

This ritual will improve your memory too. Every evening, I place a diffuser in my son’s study, especially before his exam. It works great. Not only does this improve his memory, but keeps him stress free too.

 

You don’t have any diffuser? Don’t worry. There are more ways to get benefitted.

 

  • Simply pour a drop on a tissue or cotton ball and inhale.
  • Take a bowl of water and pour few drops of Rosemary EO in it. Now dip a cloth and wipe the surface of the work desk or your kid’s study table.
  • Take a cotton ball dipped in Rosemary EO and keep this beside your pillow and the pleasant fresh fragrance will waft through the air.

 

For hair care:

 

  • Rosemary EO: 4 drops
  • Coconut oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Castor Oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Aloe Vera: 1 tablespoon
  • Honey: 1 teaspoon

 

Mix well and apply on the scalp and hair strands. Keep the mixture atleast for 30 minutes. Then wash off with any mild herbal shampoo.

 

This Pre-poo treatment may make your scalp and hair healthy and keeps split ends away. It will treat dandruff and soothe dry, itchy scalp.

 

Rosemary EO in skincare:

 

  • Rosemary Oil: 3 drops
  • Aloe vera gel: 1 tablespoon

 

 

Mix the ingredients well and apply on your skin to soothe your skin damaged by sun or pollution, angry acne or just to moisturize your face. Recommend to use this in the evening after coming back from your work.

 

You can also mix 2-3 drops of Rosemary oil with 1 tsp Jojoba oil and/or grapeseed oil and apply to treat acne. This blend is recommended to use at night.

 

Here is a special tip, given by the girl at the store from where I bought this oil. Use 3 drops of the EO in the morning after cleansing and toning to prevent environmental damage. That’s why I use it mixing with my moisturizer everyday under the Sunscreen. Try this and see the result within a week.

Caution: Never use any essential oil directly on the skin or hair. Dilute it in any vegetable carrier oil of your choice or your regular moisturizer before use topically. Patch test is necessary if you are going to use for the first time.
