No matter what the texture, type or length of your hair is, you might always wish it would have been shiny, thick and frizz free. But pollution, using styling tools, colorants damage it and you find your hair dry, thin and unhealthy. It’s not very difficult to get healthy mane. You can find some natural remedies on your kitchen shelves. They have some proven benefits to treat hair issues like, hair fall, dandruff, or scalp infections.
Today I am going to talk about such natural home remedies to take care of the scalp and enhance your hair condition.
5 easy tips to take care of your hair naturally:
1. Lemon juice.
A very common ingredient in Indian kitchens to provide healthy scalp and shiny hair. Lemon juice can control the production of natural oil, clean dirt and thus can treat a number of problems like dandruff, itchy scalp, hair fall.
How to use:
As a Pre-poo treatment, mix lemon juice with coconut oil and massage for 5 minutes. Keep it for 15 minutes and wash off with mild herbal shampoo.
As a hair rinse, mix lemon juice with green tea water or plain water. Rinse your hair after shampoo.
Note: Never apply lemon juice directly on the scalp and hair. Always mix with something, like water, any oil or gel or honey and use.
2. Coconut oil:
Coconut oil is known as the best natural remedy to treat damaged, chemically treated and UV exposed hair. It can be absorbed deep into the hair shafts to protect it from any kind of damage. Regular massage with coconut oil before each wash may reduce damage and gives a healthy sheen to the mane.
How to use:
For oil massage, take required amount of oil in a bowl. Place the bowl in a bigger bowl filled with warm water. Or you can keep it in the microwave for 10 seconds. As the oil gets ready, apply evenly over your hair and scalp. Now massage the scalp for few minutes. After 30 minutes wash off with a mild shampoo. If the oil isn’t washed off thoroughly, repeat the process.
If you want a hair spa at home, do the whole process after shampoo. Now you can keep the oil for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing the oil away completely. Follow up with a conditioner.
This hot oil treatment is beneficial for dry, brittle, frizzy hair. It works as a great moisturizer for your unhealthy, damaged tresses or those are prone to split ends.
3. Onion juice:
Is there any Indian kitchen without onions? If you can tolerate the smell, onion juice can do miracle. It may help you to treat dandruff, restore luster and shine and even help in hair regrowth. Onion juice nourishes and regenerates hair follicles too. It’s said to have prevented premature graying. But, I am not sure of the fact.
How to use:
Mix onion juice with hibiscus leaves juice and apply on scalp and wash with mild shampoo after 30 minutes. Regular use (once a week) will treat dandruff, nourish and restore shine.
For hair regrowth, mix onion juice with aloe vera and coconut oil (olive oil also works) and apply on your scalp and hair. Keep the mixture for 30 minutes and rinse away with shampoo.
Note: If you are allergic to onions, don’t use it. Otherwise you will end up with itching, redness or rashes. Don’t use it directly. Always mix with either any oil like coconut or castor or olive oil or aloe vera gel.
A popular natural remedy that people like to try both on skin and hair. Honey can smooth hair follicles, add shine and moisturize dry strands. It works as a natural conditioner that prevents breakage.
How to use:
As a mask simply mix honey with coconut oil or olive oil and make it warm. Now apply on your scalp and hair and keep the mixture for 20 minutes and wash off. You can also mix aloe vera to this mixture. Adding aloe vera will give a soothing effect that you may like.
As a conditioner, mix 3/4 cup of honey with one mug of water and rinse after washing with shampoo.
It’s a great herb to get your dandruff, hair fall, itchy scalp well treated. Not only that, fenugreek also works as a moisturizing agent, providing luster and shine.
How to use:
Take 2 tablespoons of sun dried fenugreek seeds and one cup curd. Put them in grinder to make a paste. Add honey to the paste and apply the mask on scalp and hair. Keep it for 1 hour and wash off with mild shampoo. This mask will treat dandruff, nourish your scalp and moisturize your dry and damaged strands, making it easier to comb.
Soak two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in green tea infused water or fresh water overnight. Next day place it in a grinder to make a paste (add hibiscus flowers and leaves if available). Add coconut oil and honey to the paste. Apply on scalp and hair, keep for 30 minutes and wash off. This is a good scalp exfolitor. Also helps in preventing hair loss and boosting hair growth.
